Fall 2007
Over the past few weeks the Office of Residential Life has been working with ASB Student Congress to review the Housing Point System. Together we finalized the following point system for housing selection:
2007-2008 Point System
- Total number of earned credits 0-120+
- Chapel Attendance subtract number of required missed
- Miscellaneous
- LEAP +1
- Participation in LEAD week +3
- 07/08 RA or Alternate +3
- Displaced by Bed Bugs +1 for every week displaced
- 2007 Housing Waitlisted (after 7/1/07) +1
- PLNU G.P.A
- 2.0 -2.49 +1
- 2.5-2.99 +2
- 3.0-3.49 +3
- 3.5-4.0 +4
You will notice that:
- A miscellaneous category has been created to encompass a variety of sub-categories. We believe these to be positive changes to the point system.
- The biggest change to the housing point system, proposed by Student Congress, is a student’s overall GPA. The GPA points would range from 1-4 points depending on a student’s overall GPA.
- Bed bugs points have changed slightly to accommodate those students who were in convinced by these critters. The average length for a displaced student is 7-10 days.
- The other change to the housing point system helps our students who participate in the LEAP program.
- There were no changes to credits earned, chapel attendance, LEAD participation, RA and those students who were on the wait list for on campus housing during the summer.
- We considered giving points for the number of chapels attended but realized freshmen/sophomore and junior/seniors all have different chapel requirements. A senior/junior would be eligible for 28 points while a freshmen/sophomore could earn up to 36 points causing inequity between upper classmen and under classmen. Therefore we felt it best to stay within the current system.
- A student’s overall points combine with their roommate(s) points will be used to determine their time for room draws.
- Individual housing points are also used to determine non-automatic off-campus approvals pending other eligibility considerations.
- In January 2008 we will send all students their current housing points by email. This will allow students opportunity to appeal their points with the various responsible offices.
All in all the housing point system was designed to give students clear guidelines and structure to the housing process. More details about the housing system will be available early next semester, but we wanted to give early notification of the housing point structure to students.
Any questions about the housing point system or the housing system should be addressed to Jackie Armstrong (jarmstro@pointloma.edu).
