Point Loma Nazarene University is pleased to announce the Loma Learning Communities (LLCs) for the 2008-2009 academic year. LLCs are an exciting opportunity for students to enhance their residential experience by joining a community that has common purpose, goals, and activities.
Research in Higher Education indicates that students who are part of LLCs achieve significantly higher grades, are intellectually stimulated, are more likely to graduate, and have greater developmental growth. Students participating in LLCs are also more satisfied with their residential and academic experiences. This is true at PLNU as well. Here is what some PLNU students have to say about their experiences in an LLC:
"It's good for freshmen to be in a theme style community because it gives them a common ground to make quick relationships and form friendships easily" |
“The LLCs have been a great lead-way into serious conversations with neighbors that I normally would have just been saying ‘Hi’ to.”
"Art Speaks has given me a new sense of belonging at Point Loma and is opening my eyes and ears to all that God is doing through various art forms. Art Speaks is great because it gives the hall a sense of unity as well as a perspective on the world I have not seen before."
LLC Participant Requirements
All LLCs meet at least once a week for 1 hour. Since each LLC is different and caters to a different population, they have varying activities that participants are required to participate in. View the LLC descriptions for more details.
Cost of participating in an LLC
$100 per semester. This fee is used exclusively by the LLC to provide programming, supplies, field trips, and in some cases books.
