LoveWorks Nursing Trip to Washim, India, 2008

From May 12 - June 1 2008, 14 undergraduate nursing students and three nursing faculty were a part of a LoveWorks nursing mission trip to Washim, India. Washim is located in the Maharashtra state in the middle of the country of India, and is the location of Reynold’s Memorial Hospital and Affiliated Clinics (RMH), as well as the School of Nursing.

RMH and the School of Nursing have been active mission sites for the Church of the Nazarene since the 1930’s. RMH has 120 hospital beds, with a variety of clinical areas. The School of Nursing admits approximately 20 new nursing students each year, and the program is three years in length. The administration of the School of Nursing and RMH are working toward enhancing the curriculum to a baccalaureate level.

Our students were involved in several units, including labor and delivery, postpartum (mother-baby), ICU, medical/surgical, OR, and burn units, where they had the opportunity to provide care and compassion to many of the patients. PLNU nursing faculty members provided inservices for the School of Nursing RN staff and faculty.

LoveWorks is the department at Point Loma Nazarene University that coordinates mission trips with a variety of purposes for students and leaders. It is a voluntary program; students do fundraising to pay their way. There were 11 groups this summer traveling to countries all over the globe. Click here to visit the LoveWorks webpage.
