Saturday Night in Kenya, August 14, 2004
What a sweet afternoon I had! After coming home from shopping and lunch in town with some of the missionaries, I prepared for a hike.
And hike I did. My body feels it tonight, but it's a good feeling. I traversed Kenyan countryside for three hours, through the brush and down ravines, climbing rocks and finding rocks - lots of great little rocks for my collection, mostly crystalline but more than a few nice agates too. O what fun! I wandered along ancient Maasai paths and even met one - a Maasai, that is, though he was not ancient - with a beautiful herd of cattle. He let me photograph him with one of his white animals.
Very fun.
I even saw a small herd of gazelles who were much too suspicious to let me get very near them, and my one photo just wasn't even worth keeping. Oh well . . . when Janice gets here a week from now, we'll be heading out on safari! Safari, Sagoody, I like to say.
This was just a fun, refreshing hike in which I sensed the Holy Presence throughout. I wasn't even entirely sure how to get home - but basically followed paths that wound me westward toward the setting sun, since I'd head out east to begin with. I got back to campus around 6:45, just as the sun was setting. Thank You, O Lord, for guiding me in good paths!
