This email came from Dr. Hermann Gschwandtner, who serves as the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Coordinator for Southeast Asia. He and Bangladeshi pastor Nathan Biswas hosted our LoveWorks team last year and have asked that another return to join them in their ongoing work in Dhaka and the surrounding villages.
The ministry will focus on Bangladeshi youth as well as ministry in the massive slums of Dhaka. The team has also been invited by some of the smaller, rural communities to come and join them in their village based ministries. Dr. Gschwandtner wrote…
Bangladesh (formerly East Bengal) has been part of India for probably thousands of years. As most of its population is Muslim it was declared East Pakistan upon independence (of India from the UK). In 1971 it actually became independent from Pakistan fighting a cruel war. Many families still suffer from what has happened. Situated in the great Ganges-Brahmaputra basin it is one of the most fertile areas in the world, but also one of the most populous and poorest states. The ministry will center on young people and children supporting the efforts of probably the fastest growing district in the entire denomination.
