Vladimir Masyuk, Pastor of Kiev Church of the Nazarene, first encountered a LoveWorks team in 1992. That team was instrumental in planting the church he now pastors. Three teams and 15 years later he and the field are requesting yet another team for summer of '08. Here is his email invitation:
We would love to welcome a LoveWorks team back to Ukraine for summer of '08. As we prepare and plan we 're excited about the projects this team would be a part of in three different locations…
Chernovtsy…The LoveWorks team would spend the first week in Chernovtsy, a beautiful city located just 16 hours from the Romanian border. There, the team would encourage and minister to children with disabilities and their families. Through a programming and facilities partnership with Young Life, the Nazarene church is committed to a ministry of presence in two primary ways - the children and their parents. The children. Most of the children in this program have cerebral palsy and are from nearby villages where living conditions are harsh. The LoveWorks team would run a week long creative and fun children's program. The parents. In most cases, the fathers are gone and so, many of these children are being reared by their single mom. Your LoveWorks team would minister to these moms by offering special forums and events to nurture their hearts and minds and encourage their spirits.
Vapnyarka…The second week the LoveWorks team would go to Vapnyarka, a small town south of Kiev. Amazing relationships were built with last year's LoveWorks team and they are witnesses that the church in Vapnyarka is passionate about their faith and about reaching out to their neighbors. Pastor Pasha is excited for his youth group to partner with the team to run a week long VBS program, continue the on-going relationship with the children's center (a home for HIV babies and young children), meet and minister to the men at the Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center (they love to play volleyball!!!), and also minister and encourage the young church leadership through open dialogue and discussion about what it means to lead a healthy ministry.
Vorzel…Located just 20 minutes from Kiev, Vorzel is the host city to the Eurasia Youth Congress in '08, attended by 500 young people from all over Eurasia Region (i.e. C.I.S., Eastern & Western Mediterranean, Northern Europe, South Asia and South Eastern Europe). In their final week your team would be a part of this global youth conference, participating in sessions, worship services and work projects, and possibly ministering to the participants through creative and artistic means.
What a full schedule – but exciting too! What an encouragement it would be to have another LoveWorks team to work alongside, so that together we might be witnesses to the transforming work that God is doing in the world!
Come! Let's share the hope of Christ in Ukraine!
