Safety Policies & Procedures

of our Safety Policies.)

YouthWorks is absolutely committed to the safety, well-being, and health of all our participants. We understand that international travel triggers questions and concerns about protection – especially when considering minor travelers. Over the years, we have refined a system to ensure maximum supervision of all YouthWorks participants and clear communication among our staff.

During the week in Mexico, we will divide into small groups, which are led by multiple PLNU student leaders and adult chaperones from attending youth groups, to partner with Nazarene churches. We will serve in Tijuana during the day and stay in Tecate at night. Tecate is a smaller, rural community and the campground we live at for the week is enclosed, secure, and staffed with full-time guards and administrators. We will arrive back at the Tecate campground each day before the sun sets. We guarantee that we will provide excellent supervision and communication strategies for overall safety coverage and in case of an emergency. Our dedication to safety includes wisely ending the trip or changing the plan if a situation so calls for a more drastic response.

Specifically, YouthWorks will provide the following safety measures:

    Overall:

  • Well-trained, paid PLNU Student Staff
  • Camp Nurse (RN) with full medical information on each participant
  • Staff on each team equipped with working cell phones and instructions on how to access YouthWorks Camp, Director, and Staff
  • Bilingual Camp Directors
  • Presence of multiple professional, PLNU-sponsored YouthWorks Staff

    During the day in Tijuana:

  • Constant supervision of teams by PLNU student leaders and accompanying adult youth staff
  • Constant presence of Mexican Nazarene church leadership and congregation members
  • Multiple translators on each team
  • Daily patrolling and visitation of each ministry site in Tijuana by YouthWorks staff
  • Each team equipped with contact list of all cell phones at each site
  • Each team equipped with a fully-stocked first-aid kit
  • Close proximity to border and medical facilities

    At Campground:

  • Located in quiet, rural town 30 minutes from Tijuana
  • Enclosed within a fence and locked gates
  • Professional staff residing at camp
  • Camp borders patrolled during all evening activities
  • Close proximity to border and medical facilities
