A passport is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies the identity and nationality of the bearer. As of January, 2008 a valid U.S. passport is required to enter and exit Mexico, and only the U.S. Department of State has the authority to grant, issue and verify United States passports. Passport forms are all available on-line-- just fill in, print, and take to an Acceptance Office (details below).

To apply for or renew a U.S. passport:

- Complete a passport application. All information must be accurate. Do NOT sign the application form until the Passport Acceptance Agent instructs you to do so.
- Apply in person at a Passport Application Acceptance Office. Office locations can be found at http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/
- You will need an original or certified copy of your birth certificate or a previous passport.
- Include two passport-style photos. These can be taken at Post Offices and mail centers.
- Bring your driver's license or state ID.
- Passport application and execution fee totals $97. Accepted payment methods: Credit Card, Debit/Check Cards, and Checks (personal, certified, or cashiers' ).
