Guidelines for Tutoring Position at PLNU
ON-CALL TUTORS offer assistance in a variety of GE courses. All tutors work by appointment in the Tutorial Center during its normal hours of operation.
SUPPLEMENTAL TUTORS Supplemental tutors hold review sessions before exams, at the request of the instructor. Tutors collaborate with the instructor of the course on review content and format. Sessions are scheduled in collaboration with the Tutorial Center, but held in a classroom or lecture hall. PRIVATE TUTORS are students who are approved to tutor in the Tutorial Center, and also desire to tutor off campus and in the community. The Tutorial Center provides names, phone numbers, and email addresses of qualified tutors. Time and place are determined between the tutor and family. Fees begin at $15 an hour. Becoming a Tutor…
TUTOR A tutor is one who enters into a peer teaching and learning relationship with one or more students in a structured and supervised educational environment. Tutors’ provide instruction outside of the formal classroom setting to support regular classroom instruction. As a tutor you will have an opportunity to:

- Promote learning independence.

|
- Facilitate tutee insights into learning processes
|
|
|
REQUIREMENTS:
|
|
|
- Completion of at least one semester at PLNU
|
|
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
|
|
- “A” in the course being tutored
|
|
- Professor recommendation for each course being tutored
(preferably from the professor who taught the class) |
|
- Good interpersonal skills.
|
|
- Interview with the Director.
|
|
- Completion of tutor training as prescribed by the Director.
|
APPLICATION PROCESS
|
- Applications will be available in October for Spring semester.
|
|
- Applications are available in February for Fall semester.
|
