Admissions Requirements

Point Loma Nazarene University is a high-caliber Christian institution with smart, passionate students. In 2007-08, the average GPA for incoming freshmen was 3.75 and the average SAT score was 1153 (math and critical reading scores combined, writing excluded).

To be admitted to PLNU, you must have a complete application (see application procedures). We strongly encourage our applicants to complete an admissions interview with their admissions counselor, but an interview is not required.  Students who wish to arrange an in-person or phone interview should either contact our campus visit coordinator (CVC) at 800-733-7770 or refer to our campus visit page.  Please contact our CVC at least one month before the application deadline to arrange your interview.

While PLNU does not require a specific set of high school classes, we do strongly recommend that students undertake a college-prepatory high school schedule.

Class Recommendations

  • English: 4 years
  • Mathematics: 3 years, including algebra I, geometry, and algebra II
  • History: 1 year
  • Laboratory Science: 2 years
  • Foreign Language: 2 years of the same language

If you are thinking of taking any of these classes as Advanced Placements (AP) classes, please check our AP Credit guide for accepting these tests for course credit. You can access the AP Credit guide at our Transfer Credit website.  Please include PLNU in selections of places to send AP scores at the time of testing.

Please contact your admissions counselor with questions about requirements and recommended high school coursework.
