Transferring between colleges may seem intimidating, but at Point Loma, we do our best to make the process smooth and simple. We've put this page together to help you eliminate the guesswork and prepare adequately. If you have additional questions, you may contact your admissions counselor.
Point Loma makes the transfer process as easy as possible:
- There is no minimum number of units needed to transfer to Point Loma.
- There are no specific course requirements needed to transfer to Point Loma.
- We will accept up to 70 semester units from an accredited community college.*
- We will accept an unlimited number of units from a four-year accredited institution.*
- If you have completed 36 transferable units or more at the time that you are applying, you need only submit your college transcripts as part of your application (your high school transcripts and SAT or ACT scores will be required if you have less than 36 transferable units when you apply).
- The priority deadline to apply for fall semester is February 15, but we encourage you to apply earlier. Letters of notification are mailed between March and April as admission files are completed and reviewed.
Point Loma provides a rigorous and rewarding academic environment. In order to ensure that students who are admitted will be successful here, the following apply:
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is strongly recommended. You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (based upon transferable units) in order to be considered for admission.
- An admission interview is strongly recommended. To schedule an interview, please refer to our campus visit page.
*Which classes will transfer to Point Loma?If you attend a community college or another Nazarene college or university, check Point Loma's transfer agreements to see if your school is listed. The transfer agreements list course equivalents at PLNU and the college in question. You can view the transfer agreements at our Transfer Credit website. In all other cases, the Records Office will evaluate your transcripts if you are accepted to the university and will make a formal ruling as to which classes will transfer. The course descriptions in our academic catalog can give you an idea of which courses may transfer. Courses with similar descriptions are most likely to transfer. Also, keep in mind it is in your best interest to choose general courses rather than those that are more specific. For example, choose World History rather than History of China. If you are planning to transfer to Point Loma and are registering for courses at your current school, please refer to our Course Transfer Guide which is also available at the Transfer Credit site, for suggestions on courses that are most likely to meet PLNU general education requirements. For a list of our general education requirements, refer to our curricula. Requirements for Nursing Majors
