This manual will help you understand PLNU's guidelines for utilizing Adobe Acrobat's PDF solution. Any publication prepared for PLNU’s use that will ultimately be used on the University’s internet site as an Adobe PDF document must meet the following standards. (Note: these standards only apply to the finished PDF document).
- Screen readability at 800 x 600 monitor resolution.
- Document should be tested for print quality for standard 300 dpi printers.
- Document size should be no more than 70kb per page.
- Use color photographs when ever possible.
- Create 1 PDF per item for table of contents, and index.
- All pages should have standard margins (minimum .5”).
- Enable web interactivity
- Document Security settings set as follows
- User Password - no
- Master Password – no
- Printing – fully allowed
- Changing the Document – Not Allowed
- Content Copying or Extraction – Allowed
- Authoring Comments and Form Fields – Not Allowed
- Form Field Fill-in or Signing – Not Allowed
- Content Accessibility Enabled – Allowed
- Document Assembly – Not Allowed
- Encryption Level - none
Also be sure to embed fonts. It is the responsibility of the Communications Department to ensure that these standards are followed. Failure to comply with these standards will necessitate a revision of the “to be published on the web” document.
