Peer Educator Code of Ethics

As a Peer Educator, I agree to follow the rules and policies which govern the program. I understand the following and accept them as my personal "code of ethics" as long as I continue to work as a Peer Educator.

  • I will respect the integrity and individuality of the person I am helping and of my fellow Peers Educators.
  • I will respect the rules of confidentiality with regard to helping relationships and training sessions.
  • I understand that it is my responsibility to immediately seek supervision in situations regarding potential suicide, abuse, threatened violence or homicide.
  • I agree to be a team member in the Peer Program.
  • I agree to be supervised, and to follow the guidance that is offered in supervision.
  • I will not use my position as a Peer Educator for my own gain or profit.
  • I will refer those situations in which I am not able to be an effective helper due to training limitations, emotional connection, or personal discomfort.
  • I will respect my own energy and value limits.

I agree to follow this "Code of Ethics" to the best of my ability and to ask the Peer Education Program Director when I am unsure about these rules.

I understand that I may be dismissed from the Peer Education Program for violation of this "Code of Ethics".
