I did not take student insurance. Can I see the Nurse Practitioner? Yes, the Wellness Center services are available at no cost to all registered PLNU students: on campus, commuter, undergraduate and graduate.

Can the nurse give me medicine? The Nurse Practitioner is trained to assess many different medical conditions. When indicated, she will dispense the appropriate medications.

What does it cost to see the nurse practitioner? There is no charge to be seen in the Wellness Center. If medications are dispensed, injections given, or laboratory tests used, those charges may be paid in cash, by check, or billed to a student's account.

Does the nurse give physicals? The Nurse Practitioner will do well-physicals for senior nursing students and for those students that are applying to work for child care agencies. More involved physicals need to be arranged with private physicians.

Do I need to make an appointment? Health services operates on a walk-in basis during the morning hours of 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Afternoon appointments can be scheduled between the hours of 1:30 to 4 p.m. Appointments are made to see the consulting physician and for counseling.

What do I do if the nurse is not here? If you have an emergency situation contact Public Safety or the appropriate Resident Director. Referral lists are available for information on community resources. Utilize Urgent Care facilities in the community.

Does counseling cost money? Counseling is provided at no cost to any registered Point Loma Nazarene University student.

Do I need the meningitis vaccine? The meningitis vaccine is recommended for incoming freshman. It is not required for matriculation. Please visit the CDC Web site for further information.
