NCCFI Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio
Pt Loma’s Speech and Debate team returned last Monday afternoon from the National Christian College Forensics Invitational (NCCFI) speech and debate tournament hosted by Cedarville University in Cedarville Ohio.
PLNU repeated as Christian College Nationals Debate Champions, and also won Second Place to Cedarville in the Overall combined Speech and Debate Sweepstakes Award. Point Loma had teams in the final round of both divisions of Parliamentary Debate. Seniors Brenden Garrett and Shannon Hutchison won First place in Open Debate, and first year debaters Joel Day and Britton Dennis won Second Place in Novice Debate.
Congratulations also go to Chris Champine and Ashleigh Livingston (who along with Christina MacKinnon and Joel Day from the previous weekend's tournament at Cal State University at Los Angeles) all qualified for the prestigious American Forensics Association National Individual Event Tournament. It has been several years since we have attended this tournament. Chris and Ashleigh won First Place in Duo Interpretation at Christian College Nationals (NCCFI). Christina won First Place in Communication Analysis at the AFA NIET Qualifier. And Joel won fourth place in Programmed Oral Interpretation at the AFA NIET Qualifier.
