Palomar IEs / Griffin Swing Parli & IEs Grossmont

The PLNU speech and debate team had a productive weekend at three Grossmont College tournaments. The particular results are below. Overall though, for the combined Sweepstakes Award, PLNU won First Place, largely driven by also winning First Place Debate Sweepstakes.

In the debate tournament 10 of the 14 teams entered by PLNU advanced to the Bronze level round or beyond. Four of those teams won their gold medal rounds. In the largest division by far, with about 150 debaters, Pt Loma Novice Leia Larson won Top Speaker. In the senior division, all three Pt Loma teams went undefeated in the preliminary rounds, and two of them won all of their elimination rounds.

Special thanks to Profs Lazaro, Czech, and Livingston and our alumni that helped judge for the almost 40 students participating from Pt Loma at these events.

Friday's Palomar College Dahlin Invitational:

This event only offered Open level Individual events, and we only brought a few students, but we still won Third Place Sweepstakes in the Four Year division, thanks to the following award winners:

• Griffith Vertican - 3rd in Extemp, 4th in Persuasion, and 5th in Impromptu
• Caitlyn Burford - 7th in Extemp

Saturday's Grossmont IE Tournament:

PLNU won Fifth Place in Overall Sweepstakes (not broken down by different divisions)
