  •     You can also learn what you think when you write 
  •     But be prepared to re-write—often

What to do

• Assignments must be clear
• Define your expectations
• Establish models of good and bad writing 
  •     Analyze these with the class
• Do layered re-writing in front of the class
• Break writing into stages
• Share standards with the whole group in a rubric
• Have students create a rubric together
• Have students re-submit work
• Provide selective feedback
• Practice triage
