Professor Ataide brings considerable business experience to his current position as Senior Counsel of the Fermanian School of Business (FSB) at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU), serving as an advisor to leadership on critical projects, initiatives and activities related to the FSB. He also holds the rank of Professor of Entrepreneurship where he teaches graduate business students in various courses including negotiation strategy and value creation, and entrepreneurship and venture creation, and has also published extensively in many peer reviewed journals, books, magazines and others publications. Ataide is a frequent speaker and commentator on a variety of business and economic topics including biomimicry, innovation, national defense, agriculture, competitive strategy, and entrepreneurship. In 2011 Ataide was the co-creator of the Da Vinci Index, the first economic measurement of global biomimicry and bio-inspired activity in academia, science and business. Ataide is a strategic advisor or serves on the advisory boards of numerous businesses and nonprofits. The San Diego Daily Transcript named Professor Ataide one of “San Diego’s Top 50 Influential’s” for 2010.
Prior to joining PLNU in 2005, in 1994 he was co-founder and served as Chief Executive Officer of Mountain View Fruit Sales, Inc., Mountain View Cold Storage, Inc., and Summeripe Worldwide LLC, all inter-related diversified agricultural companies based near Fresno, Ca. Professor Ataide holds a B.A. degree in Speech Communication (Magna Cum Laude), a Masters Degree in Theology and a Juris Doctor degree, and he has been a member of the California State Bar Association since 1986. In 2002, he completed Stanford Graduate School of Business’s Executive Management Program and from 2004-06 attended Harvard Business School’s Owner-President Management Program. At Harvard, he received the “Best Strategy Critique” and was selected as his class commencement speaker in 2006. He and his wife of 33 years reside in Point Loma, and have three grown children.
