Course Requirements for Health Professions Schools

Medical Schools:

For students applying in 2013 or 2014 to start medical school in 2014 or 2015, respectively, you will have to take:

  • 1 year Biology (BIO210 & BIO211)
  • 1 year General Chemistry (CHE152 & CHE153)
  • 1 year Organic Chemistry (CHE294 & CHE304)
  • 1 year Physics (PHY141 & PHY142)
  • 1 semester Calculus (MTH144 or other calculus course)
  • 1 year English (composition and/or literature)
  • In addition, depending on which medical schools you apply to, you may have to take:
  • 1 semester Advanced Biochemistry (BIO450/CHE450)
  • 1 semester Statistics (MTH362/MTH203)

For students applying in 2015 or after to start medical school in 2016 or after, respectively, the requirements are changing because the MCAT is changing in 2015 and you will have to take:

  • 1 year Biology (BIO210 & BIO211)
  • 1 year General Chemistry (CHE152 & CHE153)
  • 1 year Organic Chemistry (CHE294 & CHE304)
  • 1 semester Biochemistry (BIO450/CHE450)
  • 1 year Physics (PHY141 & PHY142)
  • 1 semester Calculus (MTH144 or other calculus course)
  • 1 year English (composition and/or literature)
  • 1 semester Psychology (PSY103)
  • 1 semester Sociology (SOC101)

In addition, depending on which medical schools you apply to, you may have to take:

  • 1 semester Statistics (MTH362/MTH203)
