TEACHING EXPERIENCE

PROFESSOR, AUGUST 2001-PRESENT
Department of Communication and Theatre, Point Loma Nazarene University,
San Diego, CA 92106

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR IN THE PLNU SUMMER PROGRAM ATHENS GREECE, Summer 2010

CO-DIRECTOR IN THE PLNU SUMMER PROGRAM LONDON, Summer 2006

PROFESSOR IN THE PLNU SUMMER PROGRAM LONDON, Summer 2004

DIRECTOR OF DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM, 1996-Present.

DEPARTMENT CHAIR, 1996-2003.

Under my leadership as chair we instituted a consensus model of decision-making and facilitated a joint departmental vision. As a result, we grew from approximately 140 to 240 majors enrolled in the department. Likewise, I worked with administrators to secure and equip a TV production facility, campus radio station offices and production booth, renovate the on-campus Salomon Theatre and Cabrillo Hall, increase fulltime faculty from 5 to 8, increase the department budget 300%, and complete a comprehensive department review resulting in expanded course offerings, increased course frequency and extensive program reengineering to better meet the needs of our students. University administrators candidly stated that under my leadership, the department has been transformed from a “bottom five” to “top five” department at PLNU. At present, one out of every 10 students at PLNU is a member of this department.

In addition, during this time I have specifically overseen the development of the Management & Organizational Communication track and grown the program from 33 to 105 students in what outside program reviewers called the “best articulated component of the department.” As a part of this process I designed and implemented several new courses to better meet the needs of students and serve the mission of the university. The most recent initiative has been a minor in Public Relations that recently received final university approval. Although much harder to quantify, but perhaps most important, has been the enhanced reputation of the department with both internal and external constituencies.
