Southwestern Invitational Information

Dear Colleague:

Southwestern College is pleased to invite your team to the 13th annual Southwestern Invitational.  The Southwestern Invitational is an IE-only tournament and the first half of a swing with the Sunset Cliffs Classic at Point Loma Nazarene University.  The Southwestern Invitational offers IE competitors a full tournament experience immediately preceding the Sunset Cliffs. The date of the Southwestern Invitational is Friday, February 3, 2012.

The Southwestern Invitational offers all 11 individual events in both Open and Novice divisions.  Two preliminary rounds of competition will be offered with a single break to Finals.  Double entry is permitted in both patterns.  Due to tight scheduling, triple entry will not be allowed.

Reasons to consider competing at the Southwestern Invitational:

• IE competitors attending the Sunset Cliffs Classic get an additional day of tournament competition.
• Competitors have another chance to earn legs for Nationals.
• We have a novice division and won’t collapse open and novice unless absolutely necessary.
• Great tasting snacks.
• Swing Sweepstakes awards available to schools participating in both the Southwestern and Point Loma tournaments.
• Sweepstakes awards for both two-year and four-year schools.
• Awards given to the top three speakers at the tournament.

We hope to see you and your team on Friday, February 3, 2012.

If you have any questions please contact Jordan Mills

Southwestern College is located about 4 miles east of 805 South.  Take the East H Street exit until you reach Otay Lakes Road.  Southwestern is located on the corner of East H Street and Otay Lakes Road.  There is campus entry from both streets.  A map is located at the end of this letter.

Southwestern College is about 8 miles from the Mexican Border, so we’re pretty far south.  If you begin seeing exits for Telegraph Canyon Road, Orange Avenue or Main Street, you’ve gone too far.  If this happens, get on 805 North, take off the H Street exit, and make a right to get back on track.

Those coming from Point Loma Nazarene University:
Exit Point Loma Nazarene University on Lomaland Drive.  Turn left on Catlina.  Take Catalina to Rosecrans and turn left.  Rosecrans will take you to Interstate 8.  Take Interstate 8 East to 805 South. Once on 805 South, follow the directions above.

Those coming from Interstate 5:
Take Interstate 5 South to Highway 94.  Take Highway 94 East to Interstate 805 South.  From 805 South, follow the directions at the top of the page.

The best parking is located in lots I, J, and K.  However, feel free to park where you like.  Please see campus map.  An interactive campus map is available at www.swc.cc.ca.us under Campus Resources.

Accommodations:
Please reference the Sunset Cliffs Classic’s tournament letter.

Food:
The cafeteria open until 2:00pm.  Also, I’ve arranged for a coffee cart to sell gourmet coffee drinks and snacks.  There are lots of restaurants across the street from the campus on both East H Street and Otay Lakes Road including , Taco Bell, Bagel Bar Sandwiches, Starbucks, Carl’s Jr., Rice King, and Boston Market.  You will also find Chinese food, Mexican food, Hawaiian-Japanese food at Yokozuna's, and a smoothie bar.
