LJML Homecoming Reunion and Creative Writing Tea
In November, the LJML Homecoming Reunion and Creative Writing Tea brought alumni, current students and faculty together for a midmorning treat of writing at its best!
Drs. Rick Hill, Michael Clark and Bettina Pedersen shared recent works as well as LJML students past and present. The scones, sweet clotted cream, cookies, fruit and teas were a delight!
The LJML department provides creative opportunities for students to expand their knowledge, acquire hands-on experience in their fields, and meet writers, scholars and professionals with years of expertise and wisdom.
We host three major events throughout the academic year:
Writer's Symposium by the Sea >>
An annual event that brings interviews with cutting edge creators, life stories, examples of great writing, and evocative conversation that will inspire the reader and writer alike. Past guests have included Ray Bradbury, Amy Tan, Philip Yancey, Anne Lamott, Dave Eggers, and others.
Poetry Day >>
LJML's annual Poetry Day features a contemporary poet of renown, presenting his or her work in literature classes, honored at a department tea, and conducting a poetry reading open to the campus, community, and surrounding colleges and universities. Previous poets include: Pulitzer Prize-winning poet W. D. Snodgrass, famed New Formalist poets Timothy Steele and Annie Finch, foremost Liberian poet and essayist Patricia Jabbeh Wesley, and many more.
Join us for an Evening of Poetry with Katie Manning, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
Women's Studies Lecture Series >>
A lecture sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program, an interdisciplinary program shared with the History and Political Science Departments, and others. The lecture is held annually during March, Women’s History Month.
