Background

Dr. Puntenney received his BA in Physics from Taylor University, Upland, Indiana. He went on to complete his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Health Physics from Purdue University. He spent eleven years teaching at Asbury College, Wilmore, KY, and in 1982 he was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship at the University of Liberia. He came to Point Loma Nazarene University in 1985.

He has led undergraduate research in microwave dosimetry, environmental radon dosimetry and various topics in medical health physics. In 1984 he was elected president of Sigma Zeta, the national undergraduate research fraternity.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he served several years as the Premedical Advisor at Point Loma and currently is actively involved in recruitment activities for the Physics Department. His hobbies and interests include amateur radio, boogie boarding and body surfing, international travel and trying out various ethnic foods.

Dr. Puntenney teaches courses including University Physics, Nuclear Physics, Modern Physics, Analytic Mechanics and Engineering Mechanics.
