Task Stream is the web-based assessment system adopted by the PLNU School of Education for our preliminary teaching credential program Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) system, and for all other credential programs and degrees.
In most courses candidates will have a signature assignment that is common among the same course offered in all of our regional centers. These signature assignments will be found and submitted through Task Stream.
The following Task Stream tutorial has been created to assist candidates with the majority of their Task Stream needs, such as creating an account, enrolling in program templates and submitting signature assignments. Please review this document before contacting a department assistant.
We have identified one individual at each regional center that is available to help you with Task Stream. Please contact this person if your question have not been answered by the Task Stream Tutorial. Also, if your question or concern goes beyond our staff's Task Stream knowledge please feel free to connect directly with Task Stream mentoring services.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Why do I need Task Stream?
Graduate and credential candidates at PLNU require a Task Stream account in order to submit signature assignments and TPA's on this web-base assessment system.
What is a signature assignment?
Differing from other assignments, a signature assignment is common among the same course offered in all of our regional centers. For example, the signature assignment for EDU 600 is the same assignment for our candidates at our Main Campus, Arcadia, Bakersfield, Corona and Mission Valley.
What is the difference between signature assignments and TPA's?
Teaching Performance Assessments (TPA's) are required by the state of California for any candidate completing their first credential. Unlike signature assignments, these four TPA Tasks are not found within a program template (DRF) on Task Stream, they are their own template. Candidates will need to self-enroll in them individually (please refer to page 7 of the Task Stream Tutorial for TPA enrollment codes).
What is a DRF template?
A Direct Response Folio (DRF) is just a fancy way Task Stream has of describing the templates our university has created for each program of study. These program templates will house your signature assignments. As a candidate, you are responsible for self-enrolling in the program of study you are pursuing. For example, if you are in the counseling program you will self-enroll in the MA & Pupil Personnel Services Credential template (please refer to page 7 of the Task Stream Tutorial for program enrollment codes).
How do I know if I need to pay for my Task Stream account or receive a Task Stream account activation code from the university?
Only candidates that are completing their first credential and are required to submit TPA's will receive a one year Task Stream account activation code from the university during Graduate Student Orientation (GSO). Contact your local department assistant for this code if you did not attend GSO. The reason for this is because candidates completing their first credential are charged a TPA fee that includes a Task Stream account and a renewal if needed. Candidates completing their second credential, or any other graduate degree will be required to pay for their own Task Stream account (please refer to page 2 of the Task Stream Tutorial for account activation instructions).
What is the cost of Task Stream?
Candidates purchasing their accounts have several options with a variety of subscription rates. Most candidates at PLNU purchase a $42, one year, account and if their program goes beyond the year they just renew their account (please refer to page 2 of the Task Stream Tutorial for account activation instructions).
When should I create my Task Stream account?
If you are a first time credential candidate, you will need to create your Task Stream account prior to starting your coursework in order to submit the field experience application (please refer to page 21 of the Task Stream Tutorial). A good time to create your account will be during Graduate Student Orientation (GSO). If you are not a first time credential candidate, the best time to create your Task Stream account will be prior to when your first signature assignment is due. Keep in mind that if you delay creating your account until it is necessary to submit your signature assignment, you will maximize the length of time your account will be active.
What do I do if my Task Stream account expires?
If you are a first time credential candidate required to complete TPA's you will contact your local department assistant and they will provide a Task Stream account renewal code. PLNU will give out this renewal code to first time credential candidates only once. Candidates completing their second credential or any other degree will need to purchase their own renewal if their Task Stream account expires.
How do I submit a signature assignment?
In order to submit a signature assignment on Task Stream please refer to page 8 of the Task Stream Tutorial. Do not forget to 'SUBMIT WORK' after attaching your document!
What is my program code for Task Stream?
All PLNU's School of Education program codes are found on page 7 of the Task Stream Tutorial. You will need to know which program of study you are pursuing at our university.
How do I enroll in a program template (DRF) on Task Stream?
In order to self-enroll in a program template (DRF) please refer to page 6 of the Task Stream Tutorial.
What TPA's do I enroll in?
All first time credential candidates will enroll in the same TPA Task 2, 3 and 4 (refer to page 7 of the Task Stream Tutorial for TPA enrollment codes). TPA Task 1 Subject Specific Pedagogy differs depending on the candidate. Multiple Subject candidates will choose TPA Task 1 Multiple Subject, Single Subject candidates will select from a variety of concentrations (English, Math, Science, etc), and Special Education candidates usually select the Multiple Subject Task, however, they can also choose from any concentration if they please.
Who do I submit a signature assignment to?
After attaching your actual document, every signature assignment should be submitted to the professor of record teaching your particular course.
What do i do if I submit my signature assignment to the wrong person?
Contact our Task Stream coordinator, Raul Fernandez.
Where do I locate the field experience application?
