Taskstream is the web-based assessment system adopted by the PLNU School of Education for our preliminary teaching credential program Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) system, and for all other credential programs and degrees.
In most courses candidates will have a signature assignment that is common among the same course offered in all of our regional centers. These signature assignments will be found and submitted through Taskstream.
The following Taskstream tutorial has been created to assist candidates with the majority of their Taskstream needs, such as creating an account, enrolling in program templates and submitting signature assignments. Please review this document before contacting a department assistant.
We have identified one individual at each regional center that is available to help you with Taskstream. Please contact this person if your question have not been answered by the Taskstream Tutorial. Also, if your question or concern goes beyond our staff's Taskstream knowledge please feel free to connect directly with Taskstream mentoring services.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Why do I need Taskstream?
Graduate and credential candidates at PLNU require a Taskstream account in order to submit signature assessments and TPAs on this web-based assessment system.
What is a Signature Assessment?
Differing from other assignments, a Signature Assessment is common among the same course offered in all of our regional centers. For example, the Signature Assessment for EDU 600 is the same assignment for our candidates at Main Campus, Bakersfield, and Mission Valley.
What is the difference between signature assignments and TPAs?
Teaching Performance Assessments (TPAs) are required by the state of California for any candidate completing their first credential. Unlike Signature Assessments these four TPA Tasks are not found within a program template (DRF) on Taskstream, they are their own template. Candidates will need to self-enroll in them individually (please refer to page 7 of the Taskstream Tutorial for TPA enrollment codes).
What is a DRF template?
Direct Response Folios (DRFs) are Taskstream templates our university has created for each program of study. These program templates will house your assignments. As a candidate, you are responsible for self-enrolling in the program of study you are pursuing. For example, if you are in the counseling program you will self-enroll in the MA & Pupil Personnel Services Credential template (please refer to page 7 of the Taskstream Tutorial for program enrollment codes).
How do I know if I need to pay for my Taskstream account or receive a TaskStream account activation code from the university?
Only candidates that are completing their first credential and are required to submit TPAs will receive a one year Taskstream account activation code from the university during Graduate Student Orientation (GSO). Contact your local department assistant for this code if you did not attend GSO. The reason for this is because candidates completing their first credential are charged a TPA fee that includes a Taskstream account and a renewal if needed. Candidates completing their second credential, or any other graduate degree will be required to pay for their own Taskstream account (please refer to page 2 of the Taskstream Tutorial for account activation instructions).
What is the cost of Taskstream?
Candidates purchasing their accounts have several options with a variety of subscription rates. Most candidates at PLNU purchase a $42, one year, account and if their program goes beyond the year they just renew their account (please refer to page 2 of the Taskstream Tutorial for account activation instructions).
When should I create my Taskstream account?
If you are a first time credential candidate, you will need to create your Taskstream account prior to starting your coursework in order to submit the field experience application (please refer to page 21 of the Taskstream Tutorial). A good time to create your account will be during Graduate Student Orientation (GSO). If you are not a first time credential candidate, the best time to create your Taskstream account will be prior to when your first signature assignment is due. Keep in mind that if you delay creating your account until it is necessary to submit your signature assignment, you will maximize the length of time your account will be active.
What do I do if my Taskstream account expires?
If you are a first time credential candidate required to complete TPAs you will contact your local department assistant and they will provide a Taskstream account renewal code. PLNU will give out this renewal code to first time credential candidates only once. Candidates completing their second credential or any other degree will need to purchase their own renewal if their Taskstream account expires.
How do I submit a Signature Assessment?
In order to submit a Signature Assessment on Taskstream please refer to page 8 of the Taskstream Tutorial. Do not forget to 'SUBMIT WORK' after attaching your document!
What is my program code for Taskstream?
All PLNU School of Education program codes are found on page 7 of the Taskstream Tutorial. You will need to know which program of study you are pursuing at our university.
How do I enroll in a program template (DRF) on Taskstream?
In order to self-enroll in a program template (DRF) please refer to page 6 of the Taskstream Tutorial.
What TPAs do I enroll in?
All first time credential candidates will enroll in the same TPA Task 2, 3 and 4 (refer to page 7 of the Taskstream Tutorial for TPA enrollment codes). TPA Task 1 Subject Specific Pedagogy differs depending on the candidate. Multiple Subject candidates will choose TPA Task 1 Multiple Subject, Single Subject candidates will select from a variety of concentrations (English, Math, Science, etc), and Special Education candidates usually select the Multiple Subject Task, however, they can also choose from any concentration if they please.
Who do I submit a Signature Assessment to?
After attaching your actual document, every Signature Assessment should be submitted to the professor of record teaching your particular course.
What do i do if I submit my Signature Assignment to the wrong person?
You may contact the person you sent it to in error and ask them to return it to you; once it's returned to you please re-submit to the correct person. Our you may contact our Taskstream coordinator, Mischa Jones.
Where is the field experience application located?
