Clinical Background/Academic Focus:

The majority of my clinical career has focused on critical care in the coronary care unit and the step down ICU. I enjoyed the role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist for 4 years in acute care at Sharp Memorial Hospital.  I transitioned into teaching the profession of nursing at Point Loma Nazarene as adjunct for the junior level for 3 years and as the skills lab instructor for the University of Oklahoma before I came to the sophomore level to teach nursing beginning in Fall 2010.  Academically I have remained focused on direct patient care and the challenges that nurses face at the bedside.  The CNS and DNP add to my expertise to facilitate education in the academic and clinical experiences.

Personal Note:

I truly believe nursing is the finest and most interesting profession and am privileged to teach at Point Loma Nazarene University.  In addition to teaching nursing and completing the DNP degree I work (yes as an RN) in the hospitals on the step down ICU’s and in Palliative Care.  In my off time I garden, play violin, remodel my home, walk my really big Newfoundland dog and sourpuss poodle.  I rarely have time for TV and am never bored.  I look forward to this upcoming semester!!!
