Background
What did you study in school and where did you get your degree(s) from?
I received my B.A. in International Studies with a Peace Studies concentration from Point Loma Nazarene University.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in El Paso, Texas but grew up in Lenexa, Kansas and Mesa, Arizona. I've lived in San Diego longer than anywhere else-- I definitely consider it my home town!
What countries have you visited?
I studied abroad in Sicily, and have been all over Italy, and I have visited Costa Rica, Belgium, England and Mexico. I'm also headed to Ghana summer 2013!
What is your favorite place you've visited in the world?
The Aeolian Islands, which are in the Mediterranean between Sicily and Italy. They are gorgeous and pristine. You can hike a volcano, swim in the crystal clear sea, go shopping and eat the most amazing food you've ever tasted in your life, all in one day!
What is the next place you would like to visit in the world?
Phuket, Thailand. It looks like a beautiful place teeming with rich culture and I already know I love the food!
If you could live in any other city in the world, what would it be and why?
I would probably either live in Nice, France or Cinque Terre, Italy. I really love the Mediterranean! If it weren't so cold, I could also live in Brussels, Belgium. It's the capital of the European Union and it's where all of the dialogue between the international community occurs.
What languages do you speak/are learning?
I speak Italian, and an intermediate level of Spanish and French.
What advice do you have for study abroad students?
Don't be afraid to put yourself in new situations. Traveling and living in a different culture allow you to meet wonderful people, try things you never would have tried otherwise and change the way you see the world. You can learn a language, eat something crazy and make a life-long friend. When you study abroad, you have fantastic adventures right at your fingertips, make the most of it!
