FA12 Study Abroad Bloggers
Meet our FA12 bloggers around the world!

Megan Barber and Lindsay Powell
Majors: Environmental Science
Ages: 20
City, Country and School: We are studying Tropical Island Biodiversity and Conservation Studies in Bocas del Toro, Panama with the School for Field Studies.
Why did you choose this location? Megan- This location is exactly what I was looking for. I have always wanted to go to Latin American and wanted to go to a location in which I could immerse myself in another culture. I also wanted to find a program that I could study the things I am passionate about, animals and conservation -- which is what this program is all about! Lindsay- I chose this location because I have the ability to study both tropical and coastal ecology. It hosts the most diverse ecoystems in the world, and it also has a very different community and culture than what I am used to.
Career Goal: Megan- I would like to continue my education and get my master's in Zoology. After that, I haven't really figured it out yet. I would love to work here in San Diego at our world-famous zoo or even travel abroad doing zoological research! Lindsay- I would like to do research in Environmental Biology or Chemistry. Hopefully working part of the time internationally.
What are you most excited to do abroad? Megan- I am most excited to be completely out of my comfort zone. I am excited to try new things, eat new food, learn about a new culture and meet new people. I am also excited to be spending four months in a very biologically diverse place studying what I love! Lindsay- Snorkeling in the Carribean Sea and seeing monekys in the rain forest. I am also excited to try the local food and caracan around Costa Rica on our vacation.
What is your favorite item from home that you are bringing? Megan- The Build-A-Bear that my best friend, who is studying abroad in another country at the same time, and I made together. Lindsay- My Vibram shoes, my Nixon water resistant watch and my Canon Rebel camera!

Ian Crane
Major: Visual Arts & Philosophy
Age: 19
City, Country and School: I am studying at the New York Center for Art and Media Studies in New York City, NY. NYCAMS
Why did you choose this location? I chose to study here because New York is the city of dreams and dreamers. That, and because the contemporary art world is most alive in New York City. There are also great internship opportunities for me here.
Career Goal: This is a scary question. I feel like I have way too many dreams to clearly and succinctly descrive in my career goal. I would love to either be a philosophy professor or work in the fashion industry in NYC. Very different, I know.
What are you most excited to do? I am most excited to slowly become a New Yorker; riding the subway, seeing broadway shows, walking too quickly. That, and for the chance to have an amzing internship.
What is your favorite item from home that you are bringing? I will definitely be bringing my camera. As this will primarily be a photo blog, it is through my camera lens that I will document my journey.

Megan Christensen
Major: International Studies
Age: 19
City, Country, School: I will be studying at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, located in The Hague, Netherlands, through USAC.
Why did you choose this location? The Hague is truly international--it's the home of the International Criminal Court and the Peace Palace. It's one of the four main United Nations host cities, and home to the queen of the Netherlands! Also, the university has students from over 135 countries. I can't think of any better place for studying international relations.
Career Goal: It's pretty much still up in the air, but currently I'm thinking local non-profit work or getting my teaching credentials.
What are you most excited to do while abroad? I'm excited to ride my bicycle all over the city. Apparently that's how almost everyone gets around!
What is your favorite item from home that you are bringing? My backpack--I plan to use it until it's threadbare, with all the galavanting I hope to do.
