Why did you choose this location?

I wanted to go somewhere that would challenge me as well as help me grow in the process. South Africa encompasses my love for social justice, history, and the environment/animals beautifully. It not only has rich ecological diversity with lions, giraffes, beaches with penguins on them (what?!?), savannahs and mountains, but also has a great mix of different people and cultures in just one country.

What are you most excited to do while abroad?  I am really excited to talk to South Africans who are my age because they are the first generation that have not lived during the apartheid, visit townships, see a soccer game, explore the beautiful nature, and completely immerse myself in the culture.

What is your favorite item from home that you are bringing?

My stationary, because I absolutely love writing letters to my friends and family even though it will be a bit expensive to send from South Africa.
