Many of you joined us this year for our 7th annual Fall Festival on October 16. Approximately 6,500 people from our community participated in a wonderful day of family fun, including carriage rides, a petting zoo, face painting, a pumpkin patch, and a local “Taste of Point Loma.” If you missed it this year, check out our website for pictures at

As part of PLNU’s commitment to sustainability, large-scale solar panel construction will soon begin on campus.

As with PLNU’s past solar projects, this one will be beautiful and will contribute to a cleaner, less-polluted campus. Panels be set up at seven additional locations around campus and will account for 600 kilowatts of power. This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions equal to removing over 2,000 cars from San Diego highways! The additional panels will contribute to PLNU’s existing 330-kilowatt system and will increase the percentage of energy from solar power to 58 percent (up from 35 percent) at peak production times.

Construction is expected to run from December to April.

Because of the considerable nature of this undertaking, we ask for forbearance and understanding from our Point Loma neighbors. Please contact Megan Ekard at (619) 849-2298 with any questions or concerns.

During these turbulent economic times, securing your financial future is more important than ever. If you want to ensure your family’s financial security now and in the future, a well-developed estate plan can help. As a service to our community, Point Loma Nazarene University is presenting free, informative, estate planning seminars. For several years, we have provided this complimentary service to alumni and friends of PLNU. We are pleased to extend this service, for the first time, to our local community. Enjoy a relaxing setting and find out, in simple terms, how a living trust works and how it will protect against probate, creditors, and taxes. We will also briefly discuss other tax-wise estate planning opportunities that may benefit you and your family. For more information about attending one of these seminars, please contact Sandy Liarakos at (619) 849-2992.

Students from the Principle of Marketing (BUS332) class will be putting on a Trade Show of New Ideas. They were asked to develop new products that can contribute to either a green environment or a healthier lifestyle. The students are looking forward to the opportunity of sell their ideas to the PLNU community. Please come out and support these students!

The PLNU Speech and Debate Team Won First Place in the four year college division at the Fall 2010 PSCFA Fall Championship Tournament hosted at Mt SAC this past weekend (December 3-5).  Despite losing many of our competitors and a judge during the event to the quick acting flu sweeping the PLNU community, 5 of our 6 senior teams advanced to the elimination rounds, with two of those teams winning Gold Medals.  Senior Daniel Nadal was named Top Speaker in debate for his second consecutive tournament.  One of our sickest competitors managed to hold on until she and her partner won their Gold Round for the Junior Division of Parliamentary Debate.  Then she let a family member drive her home.  The specific awards the students won are referenced below.  Thanks for the continued support of PLNU’s faculty, staff, administration and alumni that allows us to represent the school in this important academic arena.
