Bob Brower, Ph.D.

Background

Bob Brower was elected the 14th President of Point Loma Nazarene University during a meeting of the Board of Trustees on October 31, 1997. He assumed office on January 1, 1998. Dr. Brower earned his Ph.D. in Organizational and Interpersonal Communication at the University of Kansas in 1986, his M.A. in Communication from the University of Cincinnati in 1973, and a B.A. in Speech and English from Trevecca Nazarene University in 1972.

Before the time of his election, Dr. Brower was president of a publishing company and held faculty and administrative positions at two universities. Teaching in communication and leadership also presented opportunities to apply his academic discipline to university administration as a Dean for graduate programs and a Vice President for Financial Development and University Advancement.

As the President of PLNU, Dr. Brower is a member of the Public Policy Committee, the CEO Roundtable and the Board of Directors of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors for the San Diego Economic Development Corporation, is Past Chair of the Board of Directors for the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities, serves on the General Board and the International Board of Education of the International Church of the Nazarene, is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, consults nationally and internationally in higher education, and is involved with a variety of higher education organizations.

Dr. Brower and his wife, Linda, reside in San Diego and are the parents two children and the proud grandparents of six grandchildren.
