Bob Brower, Ph.D.

Background

Bob Brower was elected the 14th President of Point Loma Nazarene University during a meeting of the Board of Trustees on October 31, 1997.  Dr. Brower earned his Ph.D. in Organizational and Interpersonal Communication at the University of Kansas, his M.A. in Communication from the University of Cincinnati, and a B.A. in Speech and English from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Before the time of his election, Dr. Brower was president of a publishing company in Kansas City.  Previously he held faculty and administrative positions at two universities.  His teaching and administration has also provided the basis for educational and organizational consulting nationally and internationally.

As President of PLNU, Dr. Brower is a member of the member of the Board of San Diego Economic Development Corporation, Chair of the Governance Committee and a member of the San Diego Chairman’s Competitive Council.  Dr. Brower is a member of the Board of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, its Public Policy Committee and CEO Roundtable.

As a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, Dr. Brower is active in advocacy for independent, non-profit higher education.  He serves on the General Board and International Board of Education for the International Church of the Nazarene.  Dr. Brower also served for nine years as a Board member for the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities, including a term as Board Chair. 

Dr. Brower and his wife, Linda, reside in Point Loma and are the parents of a son, Jeff, and a daughter, Julie and the grandparents of six grandchildren.
