Background

Steve has been working in University Advancement since 1996.  As the Senior Planned Giving Director, he is the local expert on all things related to current and deferred gift giving through estate planning, bequests, wills and trusts, tax strategies, creation of special trusts, charitable gift annuities, scholarship formation, and finding the best way to maximize the giving of cash using current tax benefits.  Prior to his current role in the University Advancement office, Steve served  as a senior pastor for 23 years and as a Navy Reserve Chaplain for 29 years while simultaneously serving as a PLNU Administrator.

Steve graduated from Pasadena College in 1973 with a B.A. in speech communications and from Point Loma College in 1975 with a M.A. in theology.  He went on to attend Fuller Theological Seminary and receive his M.Div. in pastoral theology in 1981 and his D.Min. in church renewal in 1993.  Steve attended the National Planned Giving Institute at the College of William and Mary where he earned his certificate in gift planning.  He also served our country in the United States Navy.  Steve currently serves on the San Diego Chapter of Philanthropic Partnership as well as volunteering at San Diego First Church of the Nazarene where he is a member of the adult worship choir.  Stemming from his military background, he also supports various military veteran’s organizations, the Returning Warrior Workshop, and is involved as a Yellow Ribbon Cadre speaker for the Department of Defense.   

Not only is Steve an alumnus of PLNU, but his wife is an alumna as well his two daughters.  Steve and his wife Bobbi have been married for 41years; she taught elementary school for 31 years.  Their two daughters, Stephanie and Stacie, both currently teach courses at PLNU as adjunct professors.   While outside the office, Steve enjoys ocean related sports, playing golf, gardening, international travel, and spending time with his family and five grandchildren: Ben, Judah, Megan, Sarah, and Eliana.
