Voices in Praise Gospel Choir. Any students free on Monday nights, from 7 to 9 p.m.? Students can join Voices in Praise (VIP) Gospel Choir, celebrating and worshipping God together! As a part of Gospel Choir, you'll exuberantly praise God through choral worship and praise. An environment of diversity, with room for multi-ethnic expressions of praise, is intentionally created. Performances are at local churches and community events, as well as campus chapels and MOSAIC events, and there is a spring concert to share the praise with others. Join by this Monday, February 3rd, to become a member for the semester!
Spring Break Build. Is your student looking for something to do over Spring Break? They can work alongside other PLNU students on this year’s Spring Break Build in Tijuana, Mexico! The trip dates are March 9-15, and $250 covers everything from food to lodging to transportation, and even health insurance. Space is limited and spots fill up quickly, so sign up today! For more information and to register, visit pointloma.edu/springbreakbuild, or contact email@example.com.
Summer Internships. Is your student looking for something to do this summer? LINK summer interns live in community together, are mentored in the practices of the spiritual life, and intern at a church within their specific skill and interest area. Anything from ministry to graphic design to social work would apply. Course credit for internship requirements may even be available. Students need to fill out an interest form on the LINK website, and they will follow up with you. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions that you may have.
OB Farmer’s Market. Students can hitch a ride! In honor of February Foodwaste Awareness month, SustainPLNU is hosting free shuttles to the Ocean Beach Farmer’s Market, all month long. Students can take a break, grab a seat, and come hang out with them. Shuttles will depart from Prescott Prayer Chapel on Wednesdays, at 4 p.m., to return at 6 p.m. Questions? E-mail email@example.com.
Kinesiology Hike. Has your student ever wanted to hike to Potato Chip Rock? Join the Kinesiology Department on Sunday, February 9th, from 1:30-5 p.m.! Transportation is provided, leaving from the gym parking lot. Students should bring money, too, as they will be stopping for food! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
Fiesta de los Awesomeness! Students can join YoungLife PLNU for taco ladies (free food!), a best-costume competition, a skate deck giveaway, and pinatas! Next Tuesday, February 11th, in Smee Hall room 100, at 8:30 p.m., students come hungry and dressed in your best poncho, for this is going to be a Taco Tuesday like they've never seen before. Contact anyone on the leadership team for more information.
Free Counseling Services. Did you know that free counseling services are provided at the Wellness Center for any undergraduate student? The professional counseling staff is there, specifically, to help you through challenging times, and to provide a caring, encouraging, and safe place for you to seek guidance, or simply to talk. Call (619) 849-2574, e-mail email@example.com, or stop by the Wellness Center, to set up an appointment today. Appointment requests are always confidential.

Student Financial Services
Important Student Financial Services Dates
- March 3: 2014/2015 FAFSA Priority Deadline
- March 21: Financial Holds Placed on Delinquent Accounts
SPRING 2014 STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT
If your student is registered for the spring semester, s/he should already have received a statement of account in the mail. If you have not seen the spring statement, please contact your student or visit the parent portal to view the statement. All future bills for the spring semester will be made available on the student and parent portals. Payment for Spring 2014 was due January 6, 2014.
If your student has provided you with financial information releases, you can elect to receive an email notification each month that a bill is generated, notifying you that the bill is available to be viewed online through your parent portal. To enroll, update your “Notification Preferences” through your parent portal (on the same page as the statement of account, under Financial Services). Please be sure that we have a valid email address on file for you.
Financial Holds will be placed on all delinquent accounts on March 21st. This hold will prevent registration for any subsequent semesters, and will prevent participation in on-campus housing room draws. Note that pending aid will not be taken into account, so please be sure to have your student follow up on any sources of pending aid to ensure that it posts prior to March 21st.
2013-14 SFS NAMED SCHOLARSHIP
The SFS Named Scholarship application allows current students to apply for multiple endowed scholarship funds with one easy application. The online application for the 2014-15 scholarship will be available to your student in mid-March. Watch for announcements!
Registration for summer school is now open! It’s a great way to get ahead or complete a needed prerequisite course. Summer school is offered at a competitive tuition rate of $425/unit for summer 2014. More information is found on PLNU’s summer school website.
1098-T TAX FORMS
PLNU has contracted with ECSI to provide 1098-Ts electronically for 2013, and these tax forms are now available through your student’s portal. Form 1098-T is a tax summary issued by PLNU to all students registered during a specified tax year, and includes tuition and required fees, adjustments made for prior years, and scholarships or grants received by the student. Room and Board, living expenses, and textbook costs are not included.
Information on Form 1098-T is reported to the IRS and can be used by students to claim certain tax credits or deductions. If you have 1098-T related questions, please call our 1098-T telephone line: (619) 849-2799.
To view and print the 1098-T, students will login to the student portal and click on the “Students” tab.
• Click on “Financial Services”
• Click on “1098-T” on the left hand side navigation bar.
• Follow the instructions to access the 1098-T tax form through ECSI’s website.
If you run into any technical difficulties with ECSI’s website, please call ECSI at (866)428-1098.
Note that Box 2 of your 1098-T will reflect amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses during the 2013 calendar year. Box 1 should be blank. We recommend that you provide this form to your tax preparer, as neither PLNU nor ECSI is able to provide you with any tax advice.
If you have any questions regarding your student’s statement of account, please feel free to contact the Student Financial Services Office at (619) 849-2538 Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM- 5:00 PM and Friday 8:30 AM- 4:30 PM or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
