PLNU Composition Students at Top of the Competition

Jene Johnson, sophomore composition major, won first place in the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) San Diego Chapter Centennial Composition Competition, with her wind quintet, “The House of Whaley.” The piece was performed in May at the centennial banquet and again at the MTAC state convention on July 2. Kirsten Shetler, junior composition major, won first place in the adult division of the MTAC Composers Today Composition Contest with her mixed ensemble, “Envisaged Dance.” Sophomore William Ah Sing won third place in the same contest, and Johnson received an honorable mention. Compositions by both Ah Sing and Shetler were featured at the MTAC State Convention on June 30. 
Meanwhile, senior Diane Tuiofu won a prize in the International Piano Guild Piano Composition Competition, at which senior Jonathan Seligman was a finalist, and music major Lauragrace Barnes received honorable mention.
