PLNU Singers Recognized at Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions

(San Diego, Calif. – Oct. 18, 2010) – Point Loma Nazarene University emerged victorious again this year at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Six current voice majors and two alumni entered the competition. 

Out of 35 singers who auditioned, three were passed on to the Western Regional Finals and five were given commendations for outstanding singing in the form of monetary encouragement awards.  

Four of the five encouragement awards went to current PLNU singers:

  • Christian Sanders, tenor – Dorothy Greiner Memorial Award, the highest encouragement award given
  • Elisa Rose Jordan, soprano – T. Davis Encouragement Award
  • Austin Thompson, bass-baritone - Dr. Charles Henkelmann Memorial Award (Thompson won this award last year as well.)
  • Vlad Bgatov, baritone - National Association of Teachers of Singing (San Diego Chapter) Award
