The PLNU Speech and Debate Team: National Champions

The PLNU Speech and Debate Team was ranked the third highest school in the nation at the National Parliamentary Debate Association [NPDA] Nationwide Championship Tournament March 16- 20 for the Yearlong Season Sweepstakes. PLNU competed against hundreds of prestigious colleges and universities from all over the country. The ranking was based on points accumulated in novice, junior, and senior divisions throughout the season. Individual teams also competed within one senior division, and PLNU was ranked as the eighth top program for its top four teams in the championship tournament. Senior and co-president Daniel Nadal was chosen to join the All-American Parliamentary Debate Team, an honor extended to only two other debaters across the nation.
He also won the award for top speaker in the nation at the National Christian College Forensics Association Championship Tournament [NCCFA], held March 11-13. There, PLNU won the National Championship in Debate Sweepstakes as well as second place sweepstakes in the speech and debate division. Several PLNU students won national champion titles at NCCFA.
At the Pacific Southwest College Forensics Association Tournament [PSCFA] held earlier that month, senior Ashley Nuckels received the Bovero Award and scholarship, given to the raduating student who best exemplifies an excellence in forensics and service to his or her community. At this same tournament, PLNU once again won the First Place Sweepstakes Award as the top four-year college.
