Disney: PLNU was here

Jason Carter (’04)

Jason Carter, who graduated from PLNU with a degree in media communication with an emphasis on production, is a stereographer for Disney Toon Studios.

“In the most simple terms, I’m responsible for creatively overseeing and executing all aspects of stereoscopic 3D for an entire franchise,” said Carter.

And PLNU is here.

While at PLNU, Carter directed a short film that received attention in the film festival circuit. Through his experience, he met people at DreamWorks Animation – a meeting led to a career.

Carter worked at DreamWorks Animation for over six years. Starting his career as a production assistant, he was eventually promoted to layout artist on multiple films including Kung Fu Panda, Bee Movie, and Monsters vs. Aliens, DreamWorks' first stereoscopic 3D picture. Carter was one of a few people to have a part in stereoscopic 3D from its infancy.

From there, Carter focused all efforts on stereoscopic 3D for Shrek Forever After and Puss In Boots.

It was around that time that Carter got a call from Disney. They asked him if he would be interested in joining one of their animation studios. He now oversees all aspects of stereoscopic 3D for an upcoming franchise Disney is developing.

“Disney (being the animation powerhouse that it is) is a well-oiled machine that has fine-tuned its production processes to near masterful levels, making the amount of stress in my job as minimal as possible.”

Carter says the biggest benefit to his job is working with the best, brightest, and most passionate people in the film business.
