For Employees

All faculty and staff must adhere to health and safety guidelines, even if they have been previously infected with COVID-19 or have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Masking

  • Outdoors: Individuals on all PLNU campuses may remain unmasked regardless of vaccination status outdoors.
  • Indoors: Individuals on all PLNU campuses may remain unmasked indoors regardless of vaccination status. Masking will continue to be encouraged in close-contact settings where distance cannot be maintained.

Additional guidance for indoor spaces

  • Classrooms & Chapel: Individuals on all PLNU campuses regardless of vaccination status may be unmasked in classrooms or chapel.
  • Residential: Individuals living in dormitories on the PLNU campus may be unmasked in residence halls regardless of vaccination status.
  • Wellness Center: All individuals regardless of vaccination status must remain masked to enter a healthcare facility.

We will continue to monitor the data to inform any change in policy that aligns with state and regional guidance. These adjustments to PLNU’s masking guidelines are in line with the California Department of Public Health and the current guidance on contact tracing requirements.

Testing & Screening

Weekly required surveillance testing of unvaccinated employees will no longer be conducted for the Fall 2022 semester. Symptomatic and exposure testing will remain available through the PLNU Wellness Center.

We will continue to monitor the local community guidelines through the Fall to determine if changes in our testing approach are necessary. If so, these will be communicated to the PLNU community via the Wellness Center.

How will the Wellness Center and PLNU keep employees safe?

  • The Wellness Center is routinely educating our students with clear messaging about following the COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.
  • We encourage daily symptom monitoring and offer consultation for any medical questions related to COVID-19 by calling our Wellness Center staff at (619) 849-2574.
  • We maintain strong relationships with the County of San Diego and our partner healthcare systems to remain up to date with local epidemiological trends, treatment, and vaccination plans.
  • We closely follow evidence-based practice guidelines and support peer-reviewed data to advise any changes made to our action plan.

How do I know what students have been informed of related to COVID guidelines?

All PLNU students have been enrolled in a Canvas course called “COVID-19 Preparedness.” This course provides students with basic information about the coronavirus and campus expectations for health and safety. Completion of this course is mandatory for all face-to-face students. All of the course information can be viewed here.

All members of the PLNU community, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to take the Loma Pledge, found here.

Should I get the COVID-19 vaccine?

The combination of getting vaccinated and following CDC’s recommendations to protect yourself and others (i.e. wearing masks and social distancing) will offer the best protection from COVID-19.

Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools we have available. As experts learn more about how COVID-19 vaccination may help reduce the spread of the disease in communities, CDC will continue to update the recommendations to protect communities using the latest science.

We recommend that all of our faculty and staff get vaccinated to help increase our community health.

Helpful vaccine FAQs can be answered here and here.

Is there any circumstance that PLNU would require the vaccine for employees?

PLNU currently is not requiring the vaccine for the Fall 2022 semester.

There may be certain programs with external partners that could require the vaccine as a condition to participating. This could include clinical placements and internships. PLNU employees are also required to comply with any partner or clinical site requirements where their presence is necessary. Please reach out to your AUL or supervisor if you have more questions.
