Dr. Carl Olsen's extensive experience as an educator has spanned 40 years as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and university professor. He was a school district superintendent for 28 years, including 25 years as superintendent for the Fruitvale School District from 1987 until his retirement in 2012. At that time, Olsen was appointed as a member of the Point Loma School of Education faculty. He is currently program lead for the Educational Leadership Programs in Bakersfield and also teaches and coordinates the GED 689 Master's Research Projects. His specialty areas are school finance, law, personnel, and leadership. During his years in Fruitvale, the district grew dramatically from a small to mid-sized school district that received numerous state and national recognition awards for the excellence of its student programs. Olsen was a regional representative to the Association of California School Administrators State Superintendency Council and also served as a member of that organization's State Board of Directors. He has previously been an adjunct professor for the University of Southern California, Point Loma Nazarene University, and California State University Bakersfield.
