Mark Shannon

Adjunct Professor

Mark Shannon is a freelance woodwind artist who spends time in San Diego and San Francisco, working regularly with the San Diego Symphony as extra clarinet and saxophonist. In the Bay Area, he works with the San Francisco Symphony, Opera, and Ballet orchestras and the Santa Rosa Symphony. Working in both cities makes for a nice variety of musical adventures. One week it is a recording session at Marin’s Skywalker Ranch, the next it is a week of orchestra music with San Diego Symphony, then some chamber music sprinkled in for more spice. Variety is the key to a full musical life.

Shannon studied clarinet at San Francisco State University with Donald Carroll, the former bass clarinetist with San Francisco Symphony, and at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Rosario Mazzeo, former bass clarinetist with the Boston Symphony. Commercially, he has played with Wayne Shorter at The Monterey Jazz Festival and been part of countless musical theatre productions in San Francisco and San Diego.
