Dr. Compton has loved math from an early age. He was a member of the school, county and state math team in high school. After three years of Aerospace Engineering in college, he came back to his first love and graduated with a PhD in Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego. He has worked for the National Security Agency and the Institute of Defense Analysis, and has taught at seven colleges and universities.
Dr. Compton’s research interests include combinatorics, Bayesian statistics, graph theory, discrete math, number theory, algorithm design, and artificial intelligence. Most of his papers are classified and so can’t be listed here.
Dr. Compton enjoys surfing, bicycling, hiking, outrigger canoe racing and computer games. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Andrea who is the superintendent at Cabrillo National Monument.
