Danette White, M.M.

Faculty, Bassoon

Danette White has been teaching bassoon at PLNU since 2002. She is thrilled to bring specialized solutions for improving tone, technique, and musicianship to each lesson — methods that accelerate progress. A note of interest is that she once taught a semester of woodwind methods to music education majors, and John Dally (now PLNU director of bands) was in her class! As a previous member of the Grossmont Symphony and TICO Orchestra, White had the privilege of performing as a soloist, Weber's Andante and Rondo Ongarese and Concerto in F Major. She's also performed as a substitute bassoonist with the San Diego Opera, San Diego Symphony Pops, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, and Starlight Theatre. In addition to PLNU, White has served on the adjunct music faculties of San Diego State University and MiraCosta College, and formerly taught high school and elementary instrumental and choral music. She currently teaches at a large private bassoon studio locally; coaches double reeds at Del Norte High; accompanies her students on piano; and in summer, conducts the Bazooka Blasters Bassoon Band, comprised of her students. White is an active member of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC), having twice revised the bassoon syllabus for the Certificate of Merit program (CM), and served as chair for the San Diego Branch MTAC's Wind CM and VOCE programs. She's taught at the San Diego Summer Music Institute at SDSU for numerous years, and was a guest clinician at the convention of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA). White was also the Teen Camp director for the 2013 International Double Reed Society Conference (IDRS) hosted in Redlands.
