Ronald DeLap, Ph.D.

Professor of Engineering and Physics

Dr. DeLap holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His industry experience includes electronic power steering system design with Delphi Automotive, and wafer fabrication automation design with IBM in Burlington, Vermont. He is a retired military officer with extensive engineering research and development experience, including classified work for the NSA and the NRO, satellite radar system design for Air Force Space Command, and has served as a technical consultant to the Air Force Central Inertial Guidance and Test Facility (CIGTF), and the national-level Air Force Science Advisory Board. While serving as a professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology, he designed one of the first Air Force gyroscopes on a chip, using MEMs technology.

Dr. DeLap's technical research interests include solar power, navigation systems (inertial, GPS, and blended), and phased array signal processing, especially as related to communications and radar systems. He is an active member of the IEEE and the ASEE. He is an enthusiastic supporter of increasing access for women, minorities and under-represented populations in the engineering career field.

Outside of the classroom, Dr. DeLap enjoys mentoring young parents and college students. He is a supporter of appropriate technology efforts in developing countries, and plans to put this support into action with students from PLNU. His hobbies include video editing, reading, and travel. He and his wife are enjoying the second time around being parents, as they raise their 3-year old son Micah.
