Ted Vickey, Ph.D.

Ted Vickey is founder and CEO of FitWell LLC, a fitness and wellness disruptive health technology company serving clients around the world. In addition, he is the senior advisor of emerging technologies at the American Council on Exercise and senior advisor for disruptive health technologies at Canyon Ranch Institute. Referred to as "one of the most connected men in fitness," Vickey served as executive director of the White House Athletic Center under three presidents and is a frequent presenter, moderator, and educator at health and fitness industry conferences and events.

He has 25 years of experience in exercise science and business, with special expertise in fitness technology. 

He is founder and president of FitWell, Inc., a fitness consulting company specializing in innovation and emerging technology within the health and fitness industries. He is also an adjunct professor and program director for the integrative wellness master's program at PLNU in San Diego in the Department of Kinesiology, teaching classes with research interests in fitness management, disruptive health technologies, professional ethics, and fitness center design.

He completed his Ph.D. in Engineering and Informatics, focusing on interdisciplinary research within exercise science, technology, and social networking at the National University of Ireland at Galway. He is an emeritus member of the Board of Directors for the American Council on Exercise, the largest nonprofit accredited certification organization in the fitness industry. 

In his role as senior advisor for disruptive health technologies with Canyon Ranch Institute, he is committed to improving the health of all people through the use of wellness and fitness technology, including wearable technology, to enhance and further innovate new and existing CRI partnerships, programs, initiatives, and evaluation. Canyon Ranch Institute catalyzes the possibility of optimal health for all people by translating the best practices of Canyon Ranch and its partners to help educate, inspire, and empower every person to prevent disease and choose a life of wellness.

Prior to his recent studies, he was vice president of Comprehensive Health Services, where he led the fitness and wellness division of the largest privately held occupational medicine company in the U.S. From 2001 to 2006, he was a member of the senior management team at Comprehensive Health Services as vice president of health and fitness, where he was responsible for the operations, sales, consulting, and client account management for the fitness management and wellness screenings division. 

From 1994 to 2005, he was the executive director of the White House Athletic Center, the fitness center serving the fitness, health, and wellness needs of the staff at the executive office of the president under the Clinton and Bush administrations. He has also consulted with companies and organizations such as the White House, Department of Commerce, Securities and Exchange Commission, Fruit of the Loom, TSA, Sylvania, and Allied Irish Bank.

He frequently presents on fitness and technology to diverse audiences around the world and is the author of four books, numerous academic papers, and tens of thousands of tweets. Vickey lives in Southern California, where he frequently plays golf, tinkers with fitness and health gadgets, and takes long walks along the beach for outdoor physical activity. He is a member of the San Diego College Bowl committee (Redcoat) for the Poinsettia and Holiday bowls and the media center chair for the Farmer's Insurance Open PGA event held every January in San Diego.
