American Chemical Society

The American Chemical Society, the largest membership organization devoted to the study and advancement of a single science, sponsors a scholarship program for qualified applicants who want to enter the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or other chemically related fields such as environmental science, materials science or toxicology. The program is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences and chemical technology. Please note that students planning careers in medicine are not eligible for scholarship awards.

Eligibility
To qualify, candidates must be:
  • African American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian
  • A U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  • A full-time student at an accredited college, university, or community college High academic achievers in chemistry or science (Grade Point Average 3.0 or better)
  • Able to demonstrate evidence of financial need according to FAFSA form (Free Applicationfor Federal Student Aid)
  • A high school senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically-related science and planning a career in the chemical sciences or chemical technology
How to Apply
To apply, complete an application form (available online), include the financial need document referred to as an SAR (Student Aid Report), and submit transcripts and required recommendations. Follow instructions on the application for mailing your completed documents. The Selection Committee will consider only complete application files. The deadline for submitting applications is March 1.

AES Engineers Scholarship
The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of character as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted. Alexander Kreiglowa Navy and Marine Corps Dependents Education Foundation Scholarships
The Navy League of the US San Diego Council for graduating seniors in the top 10% of high school graduating class awards up to $15,000 per year for tuition, books, and fees for a maximum of 4 years. Candidates must be dependents of an active duty, retired, or deceased Naval Service (USN or USMC) Resident in California. Candidates must further show financial need and evidence of acceptance for fall 2009 by an accredited college or university in the US. American Association of University Women, San Diego Scholarship Fund
AAUW scholarship awards are both merit- and need-based. Candidates must be full-time students working toward a baccalaureate degree or credential who have earned at least 60 semester units with a GPA of 3.4 or higher. Scholarship applications and additional information may be obtained from www.aauwsandiego.org.

American Dream Scholarship
In partnership with the United Negro College Fund, the American Dream Scholarship Program is open to African Americans with financial need. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents with a minimum 2.5 GPA who meet Pell Grant eligibility criteria and who are also enrolled full-time at approved, accredited, undergraduate institutions. Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000. For additional information and applications, visit www.uncf.org.




Army Emergency Relief Scholarships
Eligible applicants must be dependent children, stepchildren, or legally adopted children of Army Soldiers on active duty, retired status, or retired (or deceased) while on active duty. Applicants must also be full-time undergraduate students with a 2.0 GPA. Children of Grey Area Reservist /National Guard are eligible as retired members.

Asian Business Association (ABA) Foundation Scholarship
ABA San Diego provides a strong voice on business, cultural and political issues of interested to San Diego’s Asian & Pacific Islander community. One of our Major goals is to enable members to participate fully in the economic development of San Diego, without regard for race, color, creed or national origin. ABA offers two Scholarships. The ABA Foundation scholarship will be awarded to a high school student graduating in 2009 or 2010. The Tom Fat Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate college student.

Applicants must be either a high school or undergraduate college student, have a minimum 3.5 GPA, be a San Diego County resident, and be a US Citizen or permanent resident. For ABA Scholarship Guidelines and applicant please click on the following link:

ASM's Undergraduate Research Fellowships

The ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship is aimed at highly competitive students who wish to pursue graduate careers (PhD or MD/PhD) in microbiology. Students will have the opportunity to conduct full-time research at their hope institution with an ASM member and present research results at the ASM General Meeting the following year. Students will:

  • Conduct a research project for a minimum of 10 weeks beginning in the summer of 2009
  • Work with a faculty mentor who is an ASM member and who is employed at the student's home institution.
  • Submit a research abstract for presentation at the 2010 ASM General Meeting
Funds for the Undergraduate Research Fellowships are provided by the American Society for Microbiology.

The American Society for Microbiology Minority Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program (MURF) is aimed at highly competitive minority undergraduate students who wish, and have demonstrated the ability, to pursue graduate careers (PhD or MD/PhD) in microbiology. Students will have the opportunity to conduct full-time summer research with an ASM member and present research results at the 2008 ASM General Meeting. Students will:
  • Agree to participate in an undergraduate summer research program at a U.S.-based institution
  • Conduct a research project for a minimum of 10 weeks beginning in the summer of 2009

Through two distinctive models, the fellowship allows students to decide the institution, research area, and level of activity for the summer. Based on interests, independence, and ability, students can choose the model that best meets their need.

Association for Women in Architecture Foundation - 2009 Scholarship Awards
Cash awards will be given to women students who have completed at least 18 units in their major in a program granting a degree or certificate in one of the following majors: architecture; civil, structural, mechanical or electrical engineering as related to architecture; landscape architecture; urban and land planning; interior design; or environmental design. Applicants must be California residents or attending an accredited school in California. The San Diego Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS San Diego) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women students and professionals in all fields of science. Each year we award scholarships to women in community college, undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies in a science-related field at San Diego colleges and universities.

The criteria for eligibility for all scholarships, including the Pfizer-AWIS scholarship, are outlined in the application itself. Briefly, an applicant must be a US citizen or permanent resident, have a GPA of at least 3.0, and be a full-time student attending an accredited school in San Diego County at the community college, undergraduate, or graduate level. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the 2009 Women In Bioscience Conference.

Beca Foundation Scholarships
The BECA Foundation, Inc., a San Diego County Latino Scholarship Foundation, will be accepting scholarship applications beginning on January 2, 2008. Applications must be in the BECA office no later than March 2, 2008. Students can download the application at www.becafoundation.org.

Eligibility requires an applicant to be entering the Medical/Health Care profession i.e.; nursing, dental/medical assistant, physical therapist, and living or attending college in San Diego County at the time of application. Eligibility is contingent upon a student’s financial need, scholastic determination, and community/cultural awareness. Scholarships range between $1,000 - $2,000. Some scholarships are renewable contingent on scholastic progress. Open to both San Diego high school seniors and students currently in college. If you have any questions, please call their office at (760) 741-8246. Deadline is March 2, 2008 with all documentation required. No exceptions.



California Strawberry Growers' Scholarship Fund
This fund is supported by California strawberry growers, shippers, processors, and affiliated industry members. Applicants must be children of strawberry farm workers and have at least one parent currently employed (for at least 2 consecutive seasons) in the California strawberry harvest. Growers and their families, permanent staff, and board members of the California Strawberry Commission or their families are not eligible. All applicants must be sponsored by a legitimate California strawberry grower. For the first time this year, students who are currently enrolled but didn’t receive funding through the California Strawberry Scholarship Program for their first year are also eligible to apply. Council of Education Scholarship Fund

Scholarships are available to students attending any of the Nazarene institutions of higher education including Point Loma Nazarene University, but the majority of awards must be made to those attending Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. Persons eligible for scholarships must be born-again Christians who were admitted to the University before being considered for the scholarship. Three recommendation forms must also be completed and submitted. Scholarships may be applied only toward tuition and may be in varying amounts up to full tuition.

Deadline: Application and all 3 recommendation forms must be returned to the Student Financial Services Financial Aid Office on or before April 15, 2009 no later than 4:30 pm.

First In My Family Scholarship
Developed in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund, the First in My Family Scholarship Program offers scholarships to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family to attend college and have financial need. Applicants must be Hispanic Americans who are US citizens or permanent residents enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a 3.0 GPA. The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. Eleanor Harper Memorial Scholarship Fund
The National Association of Women in Construction, San Diego Chapter #21, offers the following scholarships: $1,000 to a male or female student pursuing any college degree who has a parent employed in the San Diego Construction industry, and $1,000 to a female student pursuing a college degree in a construction-related profession such as Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management. As the nation’s leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is pleased to announce the opening of its National College Scholarship Program. Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County

EFSDC offers scholarships in July of each academic year. The awards include the $2,000 Michael Zapoticzny Memorial Scholarship plus additional scholarships ranging from $250 - $1,000.

Two categories of eligibility are available:

A student being treated for epilepsy who is or will be enrolled in a college, university or trade school for fall. The student must show satisfactory academic performance and demonstrate financial need. Any full-time college or university student involved in an epilepsy research project in the fields of health or social science who has a GPA of at least 3.0 for all work completed. Demonstrated financial need is required.

Applicants must have a permanent residence in San Diego or Imperial Counties; however, they may be enrolled in a school outside the area. Applicants do not have to be currently enrolled in school to apply; however, they must show proof of enrollment to receive a scholarship award. The Foundation of National Student Nurses' Association, Inc. Scholarships
The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) was created in 1969 to honor Frances Tompkins, the Association’s first Executive Director. Undergraduate students who are pursuing their first degree in nursing may download an application at www.nsna.org and click on “Foundation/Scholarships”. Eligibility criteria include at least part-time enrollment in a state approved nursing program, involvement in student nursing organizations and/or community health activities, academic achievement, establish financial need, and be United States citizen or permanent resident. John Gyles Education Awards
The John Gyles Education Awards are available each year to students in both Canada and the United States. They are the result of a private, benevolent endeavor established in 1990. Full Canadian or American citizenship is a requirement. Awards are available to both male and female students for all areas of study. A minimum GPA of 2.7 is required. Criteria other than strictly academic ability and financial need are considered in the selection process. Selected students will receive up to $3,000. Military  Education Scholarship Program
VA Mortgage Center.com is proud to now offer five bi-yearly $1,500 scholarships in conjunction with our Military Education Scholarship Program. The process and purpose is simple - many college students currently struggle to meet the financial requirements of pursuing their education, even with the help of financial aid and other scholarship programs. Our scholarships are awarded each year in May and November.

NASA MUST Program Scholarship
The NASA MUST Program components include the following: 1 year partial tuition scholarship of up to one-half of a student’s tuition and fees (not to exceed $10,000 per academic year); a maximum stipend of $5,000 to participate in a mandatory summer research experience at a NASA center; and MUST PASS (Professional and Academic Support System), an academic enrichment, mentoring and career development system that offers resources and access to scientific mentors, tutors, grad students and professionals during the school year. National Federation of the Blind Scholarship

The National Federation of the Blind has the largest scholarship program for legally blind post secondary students in the country. The Federation grants thirty scholarships annually to legally blind persons in higher education from college freshmen to doctoral candidates. The scholarships range in value from $3,000 to $12,000. Federation scholarship winners also win a trip to the organization's annual convention and the opportunity to develop mentoring relationships with the nations most dynamic leaders of the blind community.The annual filing deadline is March 31, and all scholarships are granted in July of each year. Nurse Candidate Program

Provides a stipend for full-time students in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Students can enroll after their sophomore year and receive $5,000 in two installments, plus $500 monthly for up to 24 months. You must be a U.S. citizen 20 to 34 years of age, you must pass the Navy's physical standard's test and you must complete certain minimum levels of training and education. Your service obligation will be at least three years of active duty depending on the program under which you receive your commission.
 


The Sallie Mae 911 Education Fund
This fund was created in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The scholarship is open to children of those who were killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks and who are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Awards of up to $2,500 per applicant, per school year are available and may be renewed on an annual basis, subject to satisfactory academic progress. San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation Scholarship
To apply for the San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation Scholarship, you must submit a one-page typed essay no later than September 7, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. to PLNU Student Financial Services Office in Draper Hall. Format the essay to have “SD Kiwanis Club Foundation Scholarship”, your name, PLNU student ID#, and date at the top right-hand corner of the page. Essay must include a brief overview of yourself, what your future goals and ambitions are, why you selected your field of study, and why you have financial need. Qualifications include being of sophomore status in the 2009-2010 Academic Year, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.300, and must have documented financial need as verified by PLNU Student Financial Services. Candidate must have graduated from a San Diego County high school, be of high moral character, and be available on September 19, 2009 for an in-person interview on campus. The interview will be scheduled. San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation Scholarships are for one academic year, but may be renewable upon reapplication and evidence of satisfactory performance in college.

 

Stewardship Sermon Scholarship
Stewardship Ministries is the recipient of generous charitable gift of annuity. Their intention is to award these funds in the form of scholarships to ministerial students based on the submission of written sermons. A sermon about stewardship and its place in the Church of the Nazarene could be worth $1,000. Send your individual sermon to the Global Ministry Center to compete with other Nazarene students in the USA and Canada schools and seminaries for one of up to five awards. The sermon should explore holiness as it relates to tithing and living generously. It should address money as it relates to funding the mission of the Church of the Nazarene: to make Christlike disciples in the nations. The scripture base for 2010 is 2 Chronicles 31:5. Format Requirements: Please format the sermon using Times New Roman, size 12, single-spaced, 1,500-2,500 words, with one line separating paragraphs, and align all text to the left. Only the sermon title should be included at the top of each page of the sermon. A cover page should include the sermon title, author's name, college or university, mailing address, telephone, and e-mail address. Please submit original work with quotes credited within the text. Remove as much identifying information as possible from the body of the sermon. Substitute generic terms for proper names, states, regions, and landmarks. Student-Teacher Scholarship


Area XI, Division 69, East County, San Diego, CA Retired Teachers Association pledges up to three $1500 scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year. Scholarship money is to be used for tuition and/or books and supplies during student-teaching semesters. Applicants who have already completed student-teaching or who will not be student-teaching during the year of the scholarship are not eligible. Applicants must have a BA, be enrolled in the teacher-training program of the University, and be a resident of San Diego County.

Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund
Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund, a program of the Talbots Charitable Foundation, will award $100,000 in scholarships to women determined to finally get that college degree.

Five women will each be awarded $10,000 scholarships, and 50 women will each be awarded $1,000 scholarships. All applicants must be seeking an undergraduate degree from an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or vocational-technical school. Only applicants seeking a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university are eligible to receive a $10,000 award. Unmet Need Scholarship
Open to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, this program supplements financial aid packages that fall more than $1,000 short of students’ financial needs. The Unmet Need Scholarship Program is open to US citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible to apply. Recipients are selected based on financial need. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,800.

U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps

Undergraduate PLNU students have the option of applying for two-, three-, and four-year scholarships throughthe U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). ROTC scholarships cover the cost of books and full tuition at PLNU and in addition provide a tax-free monthly stipend based on class level. Eligible PLNU students enroll in the Army ROTC program at San Diego State University.


VAMortgage Center - Military Education Scholarship
VA Mortgage Center.com is offering five bi-yearly $1,500 scholarships in conjunction with their Military Education Scholarship Program. Scholarships are awarded each year in May and November. You may apply, if you are a current or potential college student with the following eligibility requirements: current and prospective ROTC program students, active-duty military personnel with plans to attend college, honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. military, and sons and daughters of veterans or active-duty military. Students and family members may submit their essays between October 1st and November 12th. Victor E. Schimmel Memorial Nursing Scholarship
The Camden Group established the Victor E. Schimmel Memorial Nursing Scholarship fund to promote advanced education of tomorrow’s leaders and nursing faculty. Each year, The Camden Group awards two scholarships to individuals who are currently enrolled, or have recently been accepted into a college or university for an advanced degree. All nurse managers, directors, educators and nursing program faculty are invited to apply.

Victor Valley Gem and Mineral Club Scholarships

Two $1000 scholarships will be distributed by the Victor Valley Gem and Mineral Club of Victorville, California. The scholarships are open to any junior or senior undergraduate student (as of Fall 2008) with a 3.0 grade point average majoring in any earth or natural science related field. Proof of enrollment is required. To apply, complete the scholarship application including an essay describing education and career goals as well as two written references. Widmeyer, Yeatts International Students Scholarship Fund

Scholarships are available to students from World Mission areas attending Point Loma Nazarene University. Persons eligible for scholarships must be born-again Christians and submit one recommendation from their Regional Director, Field Director, or Mission Council (recommendations must be submitted from 2 persons who officially represent the institution where the student is enrolled as well). Scholarships are applied to tuition only and may be in varying amounts up to full tuition. The recipient will be responsible for all other college expenses.

Deadline: Application and all 3 recommendation forms must be returned to the Student Financial Services Financial Aid Office on or before April 15, 2009 no later than 4:30 pm.

Zonta International Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship Program
Women of any nationality pursuing undergraduate business degrees who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field are eligible to apply for the $5,000 award, to be used for tuition, books, or living expenses. Scholarship candidates must be eligible to enter the third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree program at an accredited university/ college/institute program at the time funds are received from Zonta International Headquarters in November. In addition, candidates must have achieved an outstanding academic record during the first two-to-three years of academic studies and demonstrate intent to complete a program in business showing outstanding achievement in business-related subjects, as recorded on the official university transcript. Scholarship candidates must also be nominated by a local Zonta club.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Indian Education Programs offers Graduate Fellowship Grants to supplement financial assistance to eligible American Indian/Alaska Native students pursuing a post-baccalaureate degree.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a master’s or doctorate degree as a full-time student at an accredited graduate school in the U.S.
  • Must be able to demonstrate financial need
  • Must be an enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe or Alaskan Native group, or possess one fourth degree federally recognized Indian blood
