Transfer Mail to Gmail

Transfer Mail to Gmail Unknown (or inaccessible) property:CurrentPageVersion.PageID
Please proceed with caution. Test with one message first.

There are three ways you can transfer your Outlook email to your new Gmail account:

1. Transferring messages using a Google App from mail.pointloma.edu to gmail.pointloma.edu

The Google Email Uploader is an open source desktop utility for Microsoft Windows. It uploads email and contacts from desktop email programs (like Microsoft Outlook® ) into your Google Apps mailbox. It preserves information such as sent dates and sender/recipient data, as well as the folder structure used by email programs.

System requirements

   * Windows XP and Vista
* Outlook 2003 and greater for Outlook support.
* A Google Apps account
* Microsoft .NET 2.0.
If you do not have 2.0, the program will install it for you.

If you system meets the requirements you can down load this google app from: http://mail.google.com/mail/help/email_uploader.html

Do not attempt to transfer your folders using these procedures. Use at your own risk.

2. Transferring messages using only Gmail from mail.pointloma.edu to gmail.pointloma.edu
  1. Log into gmail, click on "Settings" in the upper right corner of the page, click the "Accounts" tab
  2. Click "Add a mail account you own" under the "Get mail from other accounts" section (make sure any popup blockers are turned off in your browser)
  3. In the popup dialog, DO NOT enter your point loma address (It will not let you). Instead, add an email address similar to yours. For example, my email is username@pointloma.edu, so I entered usernamea@pointloma.edu. Click the "Next Step" button.
  4. Now change the user name to your actual username. So, for me, I would enter username@pointloma.edu
  5. Enter your password in the password field
  6. Click on the drop-down menu of "Label incoming messages:" and select "New label..." Type in "Old Mail" or whatever you want, and click "OK"
  7. Click "Add account"
  8. Click "No" if it asks if you want to be able to send mail from your fake email
  9. Now wait a few minutes... this actually might take quite a long time, depending on how many messages you have.
  10. When it's done, you can see all your old email by clicking the label "Old Mail" (or whatever you set it to) in the labels box on the left side of the screen. You can also search through them using the search box.

3. Transferring messages using Outlook from mail.pointloma.edu to gmail.pointloma.edu

1. Enable IMAP access on your Gmail account.
         a. Log on to your Gmail account
         b. Go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP and select Enable IMAP

2. Open Outlook from the labs (or a computer with an exchange account for mail.pointloma.edu configured)

3. Follow the instructions at Outlook Setup
             Note: your email address will be @pointloma.edu, not @gmail.com.
             Also: under logon information enter UserName@pointloma.edu

4. Drag and drop the messages that you want to save from your exchange account to your Gmail account. DO NOT DRAG FOLDERS to gmail you will loose the message in the folders. Only drag and drop the messages. You can organize them in Gmail using Labels and Filters.

Now you can delete the exchange (mail.pointloma.edu) from your Outlook accounts and leave the new Gmail imap account. You can now send and receive your gmail.pointloma.edu messages on your computer from anywhere you your computer can connect to the internet.
