Designed for aspiring teachers with a bachelor’s degree, the MAT includes a preliminary credential as part of the master’s degree program. Within the program we offer four teaching credential options; Single Subject, Multiple Subject, and Education Specialist (mild-moderate and/or moderate-severe). You can complete both your credential and master’s degree coursework in two years (46 semester hours). For more information, please visit the School of Education website.

These are the additional requirements for your specific program that will need to be submitted along with the general admissions materials, by the designated priority application dates.

  1. Basic Skills Requirement: This can be demonstrated by taking the CBEST exam OR Multiple Subject CSET plus writing skills examination OR passage of the CSU Early Assessment Program or the CSU Placement Examination OR Proof of a Valid CA Teaching Credential.

Step 3:

Other Program Requirements Upon Acceptance:
(Talk with your School of Education Program Coordinator for specific deadlines).

  1. CTC Certificate of Clearance or other CTC credential (Fingerprints).
  2. Tuberculosis clearance.
  3. California Subject Examination Requirement (CSET).
  4. Speech clearance (grade of C or better in an undergraduate speech course or advisor waiver).
