Background

Where are you from?

San Diego, born and raised!

What did you study in college?

I was definitely indecisive during my first few semesters of college so those of you who are undecided, know you’re not alone! I began my undergrad career studying Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations, then Hospitality and Tourism Management and finally found my niche in Public Administration.

What’s your best piece of “local San Diegan” advice for new residents?

San Diego has something for everyone, it is after all America’s Finest City! Once you’ve scratched a few tourist attractions off your bucket list, you’ve got to check out one of the local farmers markets complete with great shopping, live music and locally grown produce. Then stroll around Old Town and make sure to get a few freshly made tortillas, go meet the sea lions at La Jolla Cove and end the night with a beach bonfire. If you’re up for an exclusive San Diego adventure, I challenge you to hit the beach, desert and the mountains in one day, it’s an experience you can’t find anywhere else!

Piece of advice you’d give to someone looking for their perfect college:

I was in your shoes just a few years ago and remember how daunting this decision felt at the time. Some of the best advice given to me was a quote from Albert Einstein that said: “The greatest mistake man can make is continually fearing that he will make one”. As you begin this quest to find “the perfect college”, remember that it is important to find a good fit, but your decision will not define your entire college experience; your experience will ultimately be defined by what you make of the opportunities in front of you. I encourage you to look at the big picture. It’s easy to get caught up in the majors offered, academic requirements and statistical outcomes of each university, but remember your time in college extends far beyond the classroom. Look for a school that complements who you are and who you want to become both professionally and personally.
