Christian Scripture: Bringing Out of the Storeroom Treasures New and Old

Monday, October 19, 2015, 12:00 pm - Friday, October 23, 2015, 12:00 pm
Smee Hall- Room 100

This course's subtitle borrows an image from Matthew 13:52. We aim to approach the richness of Scripture faithfully, in very old and very new ways. The Bible may be imagined treasure trove for life of the church and Christian discipleship. This course takes a multifaceted approach that cannot "excavate" the whole treasure of Scripture, but seeks to provide glimpses into its beauty: its content, history, theology, and interpretation. One particular "cache of treasures" to be unearthed are contemporary multicultural lenses for and uses of Scripture. A spectrum of approaches provides more avenues for understanding who Jesus is and for participating in the Spirit's ongoing work of God's redemption in our world.
