The Five Ensemble - Piano, Violin, Cello Violin, Viola, Double Bass

Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 7:30 pm
Crill Performance Hall - Cooper Music Center

The Five Ensemble, whose name refers to both the number of musicians in the group as well as the interstate highway that connects the ensemble members, is a new classical chamber group featuring rising stars in the Southern California music scene.  This piano quintet, which includes violin, viola, cello, and double bass, specializes in performing lesser-known repertoire.  While many classical music fans are familiar with Schubert's "Trout" Quintet that was written for this instrumentation, there are over sixty other works that have been composed for this unique combination of instruments, and The Five Ensemble is committed to exploring some of these other great works.

The group members are: pianist Ines Irawati, violinist Tien-Hsin Wu, violist Travis Maril, cellist Lars Hoefs, and double bassist Jeremy Kurtz-Harris.

The Five Ensemble will perform Tuesday, January 17th with a program that will include piano quintets by Louise Farrenc and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

This concert is free.  No ticket is required.
